Club’s guide to Office Space filming locations After a disagreement between its owner and the property’s landlord, Austin’s Alligator Grill (3003 S. Lamar Blvd., 512-444-6117) shut its doors for good today. The manager has been instructed to have everything out by Sunday; employees are just now being notified, and crews are currently removing all fans, televisions, and everything else from the inside and patio of the South Austin restaurant. Moments ago, the outside marquee was updated to read, “Thanks for 15 years, Austin. Adios.” (The A.V. Club office shares a parking lot with Alligator Grill, and we can attest that it’s a bit of a shellshocked scene over there right now, with workmen yanking in tables and suddenly unemployed waiters wandering around aimlessly.) Even those outside Austin city limits will recognize Alligator Grill as the stand-in for Chotchkie’s in Mike Judge’s Office Space, the T.G.I. Friday’s-like restaurant where Jennifer Aniston receives regular scolding about her lack of “flair.” Off screen, the Alligator Grill has been a South Lamar happy-hour staple since 1994, famous for its 50-cent oyster and 20-cent shrimp deals on weeknights, while also hosting live music. Any shows scheduled have, of course, now been canceled, and the dining room is officially closed. Hope you got your Kiss My Chicken and banana bread pudding in while you could.
